What are the warning signs of a moving scam?
A large deposit up front, or cash only.
A price given over the phone without seeing or listing your things.
No USDOT number, or a company name that keeps changing.
No copy of "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" on a move between states.
A much lower price than everyone else — the classic move is to raise it once your things are on the truck.
A price that's "only good today" or disappears if you hang up. A real price survives a night's sleep; pressure to decide on the call is there so you can't compare.
Discounts stacked on a big number, with a fee hidden in between. Add the lines up yourself — the fee is often bigger than the discount.
