How do I check the mover's inventory before I sign?
A written estimate for a move between states has to describe your shipment and the services. The list the mover writes (often called a cube sheet or table of measurements) is what the price is built on.
Put it next to your own list before you sign anything. Count the cartons by size, and read every piece of furniture. Things you aren't taking push the price up; things that are missing may not be covered.
Check the weight too: divide it by 7 to get the cubic feet they're expecting, and compare that with your own count.
On loading day, have each box number called out as it goes on the truck. At delivery, write anything missing or damaged on the paperwork before you sign it.
