What size truck do I need?

Roughly: a cargo van is about 250 cubic feet, a 10-foot truck about 400, 15-foot about 760, 20-foot about 1,000, 26-foot about 1,700.

Add up what you're actually taking and allow about 15% extra for packing room — and size up rather than down.

Movers convert at about 7 pounds per cubic foot, so a quote of 7,000 lb means they expect about 1,000 cubic feet. Divide their weight by 7 and compare it with your own count.

Don't let a mover size it by bedrooms. "One bedroom" with 150 boxes is a two-to-three-bedroom load; give them your list, not a room count.

This app works it out from your own boxes and furniture.
