How do military PCS moves work now?
A government-arranged move is booked through the military, not by hiring a mover yourself. Start with your local personal property (transportation) office as soon as you have orders — they counsel you and book the move.
Since May 2026 the Defense Department's Personal Property Activity runs the program. It replaced a temporary task force set up after the department cancelled its HomeSafe Alliance contract in June 2025 over missed pickups and deliveries.
You can also move some or all of your things yourself and be paid for it — a personally procured move (PPM). Ask your office about it before you start.
If something is lost or damaged, file in the Defense Personal Property System: a quick claim for under $500, or a full replacement value claim. The Packed Rabbit's box photos and inventory are the record a claim needs.
